Beaconsfield (Saturday Team) - Friendly (03/08/2008) 2008 - 2009 Season, Afc Hithercroft  Afc Hithercroft’s opening game of the season was a friendly and took place at the Pedestal in cloudy conditions with occasional light showers from time to time. The visitors wore green shirts whilst Hithercroft were in their usual red shirts and white shorts. Goalkeeper Neil Stretton was not available and so Luke Revell took on the role whilst two new players (John Harry and Zeesham Ullah) turned out for Hithercroft. The referee was Mr Kenroy Charles and, for the first half, Pat Vaughey ran the line for the home team. At 12.35am the game got under way with Zeesham as the starting sub but after 6 minutes Zeesham went on to replace Jamal Blake who was feeling a niggling knee injury. After 10 minutes Beaconsfield went onto the attack but their shot went just over the Hithercroft crossbar. The opening goal of the game came in the 25th minute when Hithercroft sent the ball down the right, Ryan Forbes turned inside and, as the keeper came towards him, Ryan played the ball into the centre and Baz David struck the ball into the back of the net. In the 38th minute Dan Allman sent a good low pass through the middle and Baz hit the ball past the diving Beaconsfield keeper to put Afc Hithercroft 2-0 ahead. The second half kicked off at 1.30pm, Pat having handed over the linesman’s flag to Pam for the remainder of the game. On the 60 minute mark Baz was brought down and left the field of play for treatment, Jamal returning to replace him. Three minutes later, as Hithercroft attempted to shield the ball as it headed out of play, Beaconsfield gained possession and crossed the ball to their No.8 who struck the ball into the net to put them on the score-sheet. In the 65th minute Hithercroft took the ball down the left and crossed it into the centre from where a Beaconsfield player attempted to touch the ball back towards his goal. Frank Smith ran on to collect it and buried the ball into the back of the net, only for the referee to rule him off-side. Two minutes later, however, Zeesham collected the ball on the right, ran into the 18-yard box and sent an angled shot into the top right-hand corner of the net to increase Hithercroft’s lead to 3-1. Zeesham then came off for a rest whilst Baz came on as his replacement. On 72 minutes Beaconsfield attacked the Hithercroft goal and sent in a high shot from the right but Luke jumped and tipped the ball over the crossbar. Jamal was replaced by Zeesham 3 minutes later. Despite FC Beaconsfield keeping up pressure they were unable to break through the Hithercroft defence and so the score remained at 3-1 to the final whistle.
