of Wales - League (02/03/2008) 2007 - 2008 Season, Afc Hithercroft  The weather was initially sunny and dry but with a very cold wind blowing across the pitch towards the clubhouse. In the latter stages of the game cloud obscured the sun but it remained dry. Ken Johnson again ran the line for Hithercroft and Mr G. White was the referee. John and Mike Baldock attended but left before the game started as Hithercroft had too many subs available and wanted to give some newcomers an outing. Prince of Wales were at the top of the division and will have just one match remaining after this game. At 10.24am the game began with Hithercroft playing from right to left when viewed from the clubhouse. Baz David took the ball down the left in the 2nd minute, crossed it into the middle and Josh Peters hit a shot that was blocked by the keeper who also blocked Josh’s follow-up attempt. One minute later Hithercroft took the lead when Tyrone Francis hit a superb high ball that dipped down below the crossbar. In the 13th minute a ball down the line reached Baz on the left and he turned inside to strike the ball, which the keeper blocked, and Baz continued to run in and struck the ball home to put Hithercroft 2-0 ahead. Two minutes later Josh and the P.o.W No.7 were involved in an altercation and they both received bookings from the referee. However, the visiting player refused to let it go and was shown a second yellow card thereby getting sent off and leaving his side to continue with ten players. The visitors twice went on the attack but on both occasions hit the ball wide. On 32 minutes P.o.W were awarded a free-kick just inside their own half and a long kick sent the ball down the middle reaching the No.12 who put the ball into the net to reduce the deficit to 2-1. Four minutes later Hithercroft won a free-kick about 22 yards out and both Frank Smith and Baz prepared to take the kick. The referee ensured that the defensive wall was ten yards back and then Baz struck the ball, sending a curving ball into the top right-hand corner of the net, wide of the diving keeper. On 39 minutes Frank received the ball midfield, went on a dazzling solo run round a number of opposing players before hitting an 18-yard shot into the net to put Hithercroft 4-1 up at the break. At the interval Pat gave the team talk as Brian, who was looking after his children, had not yet arrived. The game restarted at 11.14am and after 3 minutes P.o.W’s Simon Gray hit a long shot wide of the right-hand post. In the 52nd minute the ball hit the referee and fell to Simon who hit a goal-bound 20-yard shot but keeper Neil Stretton dived to push the ball round the left-hand post. On 61 minutes, from about 30 yards out, Baz scored his hat trick with a well-struck shot to give Hithercroft a 5-1 lead. Nine minutes later the home team made their first substitution, sending on Michael Louise to replace Tyrone. In the 75th minute Hithercroft sent the ball down the middle and Michael ran onto it, hitting it into the back of the net to score after playing just 5 minutes for the club. Three minutes later Ryan came off to be replaced by Jamal Blake, also making his debut, and 9 minutes later Dave Ebberson came on to replace Jason Guy. On 85 minutes Baz took the ball down the left and played it across goal as Jamal ran in and put the ball into the back of the net to give Afc Hithercroft a comfortable 7-1 victory.
