Sporting Wycombe - League (09/03/2008)
2007 - 2008 Season, Afc Hithercroft
It
was mainly sunny with a chilly wind that blew towards the clubhouse
at the Pedestal ground for this game, the pitch being damp after overnight
rain but not unduly soft. Afc Hithercroft wore blue and white shirts
as their opponents use red shirts and white shorts. Pat Vaughey ran
the line for the home team and the referee was Mr K. Charles.
Kick off was at 10.34am with Hithercroft playing from right to left
as viewed from the clubhouse, so playing towards the sun. On the 10-minute
mark Jason Guy sent the ball down the middle, Baz David headed it
on and Ryan Forbes ran in from the right to hit a shot wide of the
right-hand post. Two minutes later the Wycombe No.10 broke down the
right and then turned in towards goal, keeper Neil Stretton coming
forward and diving to collect the ball as it was struck towards goal.
In the 18th minute Dan Allman blocked two passes between Wycombe defenders
before hitting a shot just wide of the left-hand post. One minute
later Frank Smith sent the ball down the middle, Baz ran onto it,
avoided the advancing keeper and hit a shot that was cleared on the
line by a defender. On 24 minutes Baz sent in a high ball from a free-kick
and Frank headed the ball over the crossbar. Wycombe came close to
opening the scoring when their No.14 turned in from the left and hit
a shot that went just outside the right-hand post. In the 39th minute
a Wycombe player sustained an ankle injury and, after a 4-minute spell
of treatment was unable to continue, and so was substituted.
At 11.26am the second half kicked off and in the 52nd minute the Wycombe
No.10 hit a free-kick from about 30 yards out and Neil dived to pluck
the ball from the air. Four minutes later Baz took the ball down the
wing and crossed it into the middle where is was pushed back to Dan
who blasted it into the net to give Hithercroft a 1-0 lead. There
was a problem for the home team on the hour when Luke Revell went
on to replace Michael Louise; Luke's name had not been included on
the list of substitutes given to the referee and so Hithercroft continued
with ten players for four minutes whilst Jamal Blake warmed-up to
go on. On 66 minutes Jamal sent a great diagonal pass from the left
across to Tyrone Francis on the right wing, Tyrone took the ball on
and then crossed it back into the middle for Baz to hit it into the
back of the visitor’s net to increase Hithercroft’s lead.
Within 60 seconds of the restart Hithercroft went 3-0 ahead when Baz
won the ball and went down the left, drawing the keeper out before
sending the ball across the goalmouth where Tyrone dived low to head
the ball into the open net. In the 71st minute Wycombe hit a shot
that again had Neil diving to block. At this point the Wycombe No.33
had words with the referee and ended up being shown a yellow card.
Dan Ebberson needed to get away early and so was replaced by Dan Birch,
on leave from the army, in the 75th minute. Hithercroft centre-back
Jason Guy had to leave the field for treatment to a leg injury after
he had been tackled from behind as he guided the ball back to his
keeper. After returning to the field he was again on the receiving
end of a heavy tackle in the 85th minute, the referee subsequently
having words with the offending No.9. Hithercroft kept up the pressure
but were unable to add to their score-line and were 3-0 winners at
the final whistle.
