Rangers friendly (20/08/2006) 2006 - 2007 Season, Afc Hithercroft  The weather had been very wet over the last few days and there had also been a shower in the early morning but the game took place in dry but slightly overcast conditions. Wye Rangers had only one substitute available but Hithercroft had an amazing six subs with Dewayne Dublin, Jamaine Humphrey and Simon Woodbine present as spectators. Dougie Carswell took on the Hithercroft goal-keeper’s role for most of the game, Pam Ife ran the line and Darren Keen (Wye Rangers manager) and Brian Lewis (Hithercroft coach) refereeing one half each. The game kicked off at 11.08am with Hithercroft playing from left to right as viewed from the clubhouse. The first half was fairly even with neither side managing to get onto the score sheet. Hithercroft made full use of their subs sending on Jermaine Young, Peter Morgan, Ashley Anderson and Joe McLanahan to replace Baz, Leon, Jamaine and Paul in the 25th minute and, 9 minutes later sending on Richard and Matt to replace Frank and Alex. The second half began at 12 o’clock and after 2 minutes Hithercroft were passing the ball around in their opponents’ penalty area but were unable to set up for a shot on goal. In the 49th minute Hithercroft took off Joe, who was feeling sick, and sent on Paul as his replacement. Two minutes later Hithercroft took the lead when Alan McKie hit a long goal-kick forward to Jermaine Young, he pushed it on to Tyrone Francis and Tyrone’s shot went to the right of the Wye Ranger’s keeper into the net. In the 59th minute the visitors sent on their sole substitute and then three minutes later Hithercroft replaced Tyrone with Alex, Loz taking over the captaincy. Loz had just a short three minute spell as captain as he then left to go to see the Chelsea match, Frank coming back on as his replacement. On the 69 minute mark Wye Rangers sent in a high corner from their left and it was headed on towards goal but Dougie did well to rise up and block it. One minute later Baz came back on and Jermaine Young departed. After a further 3 minutes Alan McKie needed treatment for cramp and, after a short interval came back on in the 73rd minute to take up the goal-keeper’s role, leaving Dougie to return to his on-field role with Hithercroft making further substitutions. Hithercroft came close to increasing their lead in the 76th minute when Tyrone struck a shot that hit the keeper, was deflected onto the crossbar and rebounded out. The keeper came forward to gather it but collided with a defender, the ball falling to Tyrone. Tyrone, instead of trying a shot, sent the ball out to Alex whose shot was blocked by a retreating defender. A few minutes later Frank and Alex inter-passed and Alex then crossed the ball inside to Paul who sent a shot just outside the left-hand post. In the 84th minute Alex had a shot himself that went just outside the right-hand post. No further scoring took place and so Hithercroft emerged as 1-0 victors of an entertaining match.
