Wycombe
Town 'A' (18/02/2007)
2006 - 2007 Season, Afc Hithercroft
It was a dry but very cold day for the second meeting of these two
clubs, this game being played at the Holtspur ground. In the first
encounter Afc Hithercroft had only just managed to field eleven players
and the same applied on this occasion with Baz David and Ashley Anderson,
their two top-scorers this season, being unavailable. Tyrone Francis
took over the captaincy with Mr Tim Bingle in charge of the game and
Pam Ife ran the line for Hithercroft. At
10.32am the game kicked off and, in the second minute, Town took
the ball down the right and sent it across the face of the Hithercroft
goal. Neil Robbins tried a diving header but, fortunately for the
visitors, he failed to connect with the ball. On 17 minutes Mike
Baldock crossed the ball to his brother, John, on the left and John
tried a shot as he entered the 18-yard box but the ball went just
wide of the Town's left-hand post. Two minutes later the Town captain,
Kevian Herbert, pushed the ball down the middle and Neil Robbins
ran on through but his shot was blocked by Neil Stretton, the Hithercroft
keeper. On 22 minutes Frank Smith saw his shot blocked by the Town
keeper, the ball going out of play for a corner kick. Kevin Howell
took the kick, sending in a high ball which Frank headed well-wide
of the left hand post. On 38 minutes Tyrone took a corner kick from
the left and the ball was pushed out by the Town defence as far
as Hithercroft’s Kris Clark but his header went just outside
of the right-hand post.
The
game remained scoreless as the second half kicked off at 11.33am,
Pat Vaughey having taken over the linesman’s duties from Pam,
who had injured her ankle. On 50 minutes Kevian Herbert collected
the ball on the right, turned on the spot and crossed the ball into
the Hithercroft 6-yard box for Neil Robbins to put the ball into
the back of the net to give Town a 1-0 lead. Twelve minutes later
Town made two substitutions, taking off Neil Robbins and their No.
5 to replace them with Nos 3 and 9. In the 65th minute Kevin Howell
took the ball out to the left and crossed it inside where John Baldock
struck the ball into the Town net to level the score at 1-1. Two
minutes later Tyrone and Frank combined to take the ball down the
right and Tyrone turned inside but hit the ball just wide of the
left-hand post. On 77 minutes, after further pressure from Hithercroft,
Town made their final substitution sending on No.2 to replace their
No.6. On 82 minutes Town were awarded a free-kick just outside of
the 18-yard box but the shot was punched clear by the Hithercroft
keeper. One minute later Tyrone tried a shot and, as the keeper
went down the ball was heading towards the right-hand corner of
the goal and it looked like Hithercroft were about to take the lead.
However, a defender came across and kicked the ball clear. Then
followed non-stop pressure from the visitors with corner kicks and
numerous shots at goal. On one occasion Frank took the ball down
the left and sent it across the face of the Town goal but both Kevin
Howell and Tyrone missed making contact with the ball inside the
6-yard box. When the final whistle was blown this very exciting
game ended in a 1-1 draw.
