Wycombe
Marsh R.B.L (10/09/2006)
2006 - 2007 Season, Afc Hithercroft
It was
a warm and sunny day for this game and Hithercroft again turned out
in their blue and yellow kit to avoid a colour clash with their opponents
who play in red. Hithercroft were again without Alan McKie who was
involved in an athletics meeting, and Sam Woodbine was still recovering
from his knee injury that he picked up last week. Dougie Carswell
was also unavailable. Coach Brian Lewis had been away on business
in Manchester and was unable to get back in time to see this match.
The referee was Mr Terry Crystal and Pam Ife again ran the line for
Hithercroft.
The game kicked off promptly at 10.30am, Hithercroft
playing from right to left as viewed from the clubhouse. After 3
minutes of play Dewayne Dublin won the ball and crossed it infield
to Paul Morgan who hit a shot just over the Wycombe Marsh crossbar.
In the 16th minute the referee booked Paul for pushing an opponent
in the back and the resultant 40-yard free kick went safely to the
Hithercroft keeper’s arms. Five minutes later Hithercroft
took the lead when captain Baz David received the ball in the middle
of the field, evaded a defender and found the left-hand corner of
the net. In the 25th minute Marsh broke down the middle and Anthony
Honeybourne went past David Blackman but hit his shot just over
the crossbar. From a throw-in 18 yards from the Hithercroft goal-line
the ball went to captain Steve Oxlade but his header just cleared
the Hithercroft crossbar. Then Paul Morgan hit a powerful shot from
about 45 yards that was just a fraction too high. On the 35th minute
mark Marsh took a throw-in level with the 18-yard box and Steve
Oxlade headed the ball into the Hithercroft net to put his team
back on level terms. Two minutes later Hithercroft came close to
retaking the lead when Tyrone Francis got his head to the ball as
it came across from a corner-kick but, as the ball headed for the
top right-hand corner, the keeper pushed the ball wide. In the 41st
minute Hithercroft’s Frank Smith slipped the ball through
a defender’s legs to Baz who took it to the right and then
back-heeled it across goal and into the far side of the net to put
his side 2-1 up.
No changes were made by either side at the half-time
interval and the game resumed at 11.21am. Four minutes into the
half Tyrone chipped the ball into the Marsh 18-yard box, the keeper
stumbled as he came forward and Frank Smith ran round him to collect
it and put it into the net for Hithercroft’s 3rd goal. Three
minutes later Baz collected the ball on the right and crossed it
into the middle for Tyrone to shoot but Wycombe Marsh’s Steve
Oxlade, attempting to push it wide, sent the ball into his own net
giving Hithercroft a 4-1 lead. On the 60-minute mark the visitors
sent on their final two subs, Hithercroft continuing with their
starting eleven. Three minutes later Baz sent the ball into the
middle from the right-hand side but Dewayne Dublin hit an 18-yard
shot over the crossbar. Dewayne came off four minutes later to be
replaced by Jamaine Warner. Hithercroft played the ball down the
centre of the pitch and two Marsh defenders got in each others way
allowing the ball to run loose. Tyrone ran into the 18-yard box
but hit a shot that went across the goal-mouth and rebounded out
from the far post. In the 69th minute the home team increased their
lead when Frank crossed the ball inside to Tyrone, he pushed it
on to Paul and Paul’s on-target shot then took a deflection
from a defender but spun just inside the left-hand post. Two minutes
later Frank entered the 18-yard box, only to be brought down from
behind and the referee awarded a penalty kick to Hithercroft which
Tyrone converted. On the 74th minute mark Ashley Anderson sent the
ball downfield to Frank on the left and he crossed it to Jamaine
on the right. Jamaine chipped the ball into the 6-yard box but Tyrone’s
header was just a fraction too high, the ball dropping onto the
top of the net. Four minutes later Ashley crossed the ball to Frank
on the right but his subsequent shot went just outside the near
post. With just one minute remaining Hithercroft’s persistence
paid off when Paul took the ball downfield, slipped it through to
Baz who then fired it into the middle of the net to give his side
a 7-1 victory.
