  Marston 2000 FC - B & B Cup (29/10/2006)
2006 - 2007 Season, Afc Hithercroft

There was concern that Afc Hithercroft would not be able to raise the minimum six players when they met up at Wycombe Train Station at 8.45am but it appeared that some players had been given a meeting time of 9.30am. Eventually eleven players were found and we set off for the second round of the B & B Junior Cup to Bottley Fields in Chesham. The weather was dry and sunny but the pitch was in a rather poor condition with the grass being in need of a cut. The pitch also sloped from one goal to the other. The referee was Mr Paul Norman and Pam Ife ran the line for Hithercroft.

The game kicked off at 10.38am with Afc Hithercroft playing downhill for the first half. The visitors began well, putting their opponents’ goal under pressure but the first goal fell to Marston in the 14th minute when the ball was crossed into the middle and James Foster struck a 30-yard shot that came down just beneath the Hithercroft crossbar. After 2 more minutes the scoreline was levelled when Frank Smith sent the ball inside to Tyrone Francis, Tyrone took it downfield and struck it to the right of the keeper into the Marston net. In the 24th minute Hithercroft’s Kevin Howell sent in a corner kick from the right and Kris Clark headed the ball into the net at the far post, only to be denied a goal by the referee awarding a free-kick to Marston, presumably for a foul on the keeper. Hithercroft continued to attack the Marston goal but many of their shots were either straight at the keeper or just off-target. In the 33rd minute Hithercroft sent the ball into the 18-yard box and Jamaine Humphrey hit a shot that the keeper managed to get a hand to but the keeper was unable to prevent it finding the inside of the net and so Hithercroft took a 2-1 lead. Five minutes later Kris fell awkwardly and twisted his ankle, having to leave the field for treatment and returning to see out the match in obvious pain. On 40 minutes Frank took the ball down the left wing and was brought down as he entered the 18-yard box, the referee awarding a penalty kick. Frank converted from the spot sending the ball just inside the left-hand post to give Hithercroft a 3-1 lead in the 41st minute.

The second half began at 11.35am with Marston having the advantage of playing downhill and they took charge of the game. In the 57th minute they played the ball down the right and Adam Henry struck the ball from 18-yards into the left-hand side of Hithercroft’s net to bring them back to just one goal in arrears. On the 60-minute mark Marston’s Mark Fessey sent in a free-kick but James Foster failed to get his head to the ball as it went out for a Hithercroft goal-kick. Five minutes later Adam Henry failed to get the ball on-target with a diving header and Hithercroft held out to the final whistle to end up with a 3-2 win.

Kris Clark was taken to A & E at Wycombe General Hospital after the game and torn ligaments were diagnosed, leaving him on crutches.
