The game kicked off promptly at 10.30am and after 9 minutes Afc had taken the lead when keeper, Neil Stretton, sent a long ball down the right, Baz David took it on and crossed it inside from where Frank Smith hit it into the back of the Res’ net. However, one minute later Res played the ball down the middle and two Afc defenders chased back towards their own goal. In attempting to put the ball wide for a corner Luke Revell hit the ball into his own net and so the scores were level. In the 32nd minute Res's Steve Simmons sent in a high ball from a corner kick, an Afc defender’s poorly-directed header came off the keeper and ended up inside the net to put the visiting team into the lead. Two minutes before the half-time interval Afc made two substitutions, sending on Ashley Anderson and Tyrone Francis to replace Dan Birch and John Baldock.

The second half kicked off at 11.20am and Afc again failed to make the most of their goal-scoring opportunities, failing to try first-time shots and spending too much time trying to set up their shots. The visitors made some substitutions and began to play the better football. In the 66th minute a shot from Res hit the crossbar before dropping down amidst a cluster of players but Neil managed to punch the ball clear. On 79 minutes Res sent the ball into the Afc 18-yard box and Lee Putnam ran in to head the ball into the goal to give Res a 3-1 lead. Five minutes later the Res No.8 sent in a lofted ball from the left-hand corner and Lee again got his head to the ball but Neil rose up to tip the ball over the crossbar. One minute before the final whistle Joe Banks crossed the ball into the home team’s 18-yard box and Lee ran in to strike the ball into the Afc net to give his side a 4-1 victory.

In spite of Afc scoring 3 times to Res’s 2 their own goals sent Res into their remaining two Group B matches with three points and a well-deserved win.
