  Wye Rangers (09/10/2005)
2005 - 2006 Season, Hithercroft Youth

This week's fixtures saw the current top two teams up against each other and the current third and fourth teams meeting, Hithercroft Youth being in third place. The weather was sunny and dry with no breeze and the pitch was damp but in good condition. Hithercroft, initially, had no subs available with only two players having given advance notification of their intended absence. The referee was Mr Clive Chard and Pam Ife ran the line for Hithercroft.

The game kicked off at 10.35am and the first scoring opportunity fell to Hithercroft after 10 minutes when Dewayne Dublin took the ball into the 18-yard box and hit a shot that dipped down over the keeper but passed just over the crossbar. In the 16th minute Matt Hedges, the Hithercroft keeper, went down on the ball and received a kick to his head from a Wye Rangers player. After treatment he was able to resume play but with quite a lump on his head. Three minutes later Wye Rangers took a 1-0 lead when the ball went out left to their No.11 (Rob Kerns) who brought it inside and hit it into the net between Matt and the left-hand post. At 10.59am the visiting No.9 mis-hit a shot from 30 yards out and the ball went outside of the left-hand upright. Four minutes later they also came extremely close when they brought the ball down the right, sent it inside and hit a shot but Jamaine Warner managed to get back and prevent the ball from crossing the goal-line.

At 11.29am the second half began with unchanged sides but at 11.40am Baz David arrived to provide Hithercroft with a sub, coming on to replace Denshloy Myrie in the 20th minute of the half. One minute later Paul Morgan hit the ball from about 20 yards out near the sideline and the ball ended up in the far side of the net to bring the scores level. At 11.53am Wye Rangers made a substitution, bringing on their No.8 for No.11 but Hithercroft had now begun to get more into the game. Dan Birch sent a long ball down the middle to Baz who then won a corner over on the right. He sent the ball into the middle, Alan McKie ran in but failed to connect, and the ball went across to Dan on the left. He drove a powerful shot at goal which hit the keeper firmly on the chest. Hithercroft then almost took the lead when Dan played the ball into the middle but Loz Dunn completely missed the ball as he tried a shot at a virtually open goal. On the 75th minute Alan sent a ball down the right wing to Paul who then played it forward to Baz. Baz took the ball into the 18-yard box, went round the keeper as he came forward and put the ball into the net to give Hithercroft a 2-1 lead. Then Richard Vere sent a long ball down the middle and Dewayne ran forward, flanked by two Rangers players who were pressuring him from both sides, and managed to get in a shot but it went straight at the keeper. At 12.07pm Wye sent on a second substitute but they were unable to stop the pressure from Hithercroft. However, the score-line remained unchanged until the final whistle was blown at 12.15pm.

Hithercroft had now moved into second place in the division and the game between Queens Head Rangers and Cressex Club Reserves ended in a 2-3 score-line putting Cressex top, with Queens Head Rangers dropping into third position.
