  Queen's Head Rangers Res (22/01/2006)
2005 - 2006 Season, Hithercroft Youth

This was the final home game of the season for Hithercroft Youth and was played on a frosted surface that thawed out as the game went on, leaving a damp and slippery surface. The weather was dry and sunny with no wind and the temperature was fairly warm in the sunshine. Hithercroft wore their red shirts to avoid a colour clash with their opponents. The referee was Mr Kenroy Charles and Pat Vaughey was the Hithercroft linesman.

Hithercroft had a number of opportunities to open the scoring early in the game but were let down, once again, by poor finishing and failure to win the high balls as they went into the 18-yard box. However, 20 minutes into the game Dewayne Dublin sent the ball into the middle, Baz David hit a shot that was parried by the Rangers’ keeper and, as the ball came out, Matt Seaton ran in to put the ball into the net to give Hithercroft the first goal. The referee produced a yellow card to a Rangers’ player for showing dissent following the scoring of the goal. Nine minutes later the visitors had their first opportunity to get a goal when the ball was crossed in from a free kick (awarded following a rugby-style tackle by Paul Morgan) but Rangers headed the ball over the crossbar. Following a hand-ball incident in the 35th minute Baz sent in a high shot from the resultant free-kick but the keeper pushed the ball over the Rangers‘ crossbar. In the 41st minute Rangers sent a long ball forward but a close-range header was well-stopped by keeper Matt Hedges. At the end of the first half, therefore, Hithercroft were 1-0 ahead having had most of the possession, free-kicks corners and throw-ins.

Eleven minutes into the second half the Queens (sorry…the Rangers) were awarded a free-kick from about 30 yards out and keeper Matt attempted to organise the defensive wall but the players took little notice of his directions. Fortunately the No.7 hit the ball over the crossbar. The referee then produced a yellow card to another Rangers player, presumably for arguing with him. In the 60th minute Loz Dunn gathered the ball and ran into the 18-yard box, evaded the advancing keeper and angling the ball into the net to give Hithercroft a 2-0 lead. One minute later Paul Morgan’s name went into the referee’s book for bringing down a Rangers player from behind. In the 62nd minute Hithercroft made their first substitution bringing on Tyrone Francis to replace Dewayne Dublin. The referee added another name to his book seven minutes later, this time that of the Rangers’ No.14 (either for dissent or using bad language). On 73 minutes Hithercroft increased their lead when Baz took the ball down the right, crossed it to Matt Seaton on the left wing. Matt then sent it back inside to Tyrone who hit the ball into the back of the net. Jamaine Warner then went on to replace the Hithercroft defender Peter Morgan and after a 6-minute spell Jamaine Humphrey took the field in place of Richard Vere. Hithercroft began to string some good passes together and put their opponent’s goal under threat. A header from Alan McKie went just outside the right-hand post shortly before the final whistle gave Hithercroft a 3-0 victory.
