  Queen's Head Rangers Res (25/09/2005)
2005 - 2006 Season, Hithercroft Youth

This away game for Hithercroft took place at Hazlemere Rec and, despite earlier rain, the sun was shining and the weather remained dry. Once again, with the unavailability of a referee, Brian Lewis took charge of the game and Pat Vaughey ran the line for Hithercroft.

The game kicked off at 10.28am and after 3 minutes Hithercroft went into the lead when the ball was centred where Baz David collected it, turned and struck it into the left corner of the net. Two minutes later Hithercroft sent the ball down the middle and, as the keeper came forward, Dewayne Dublin lifted the ball over the keeper's head and into the net to increase his team's lead to 2-0. On 21 minutes Mark Sadler sent the ball forward to Dewayne who then forwarded it on to Baz. Baz took the ball into the 18-yard box, rounded the keeper and put the ball into the back of the net for Hithercroft's third goal. The visitors were well on top with the Rangers making loose passes and lacking the determination of their opponents. At 11 o'clock Loz Dunn played the ball forward, Baz collected it and again took it round the keeper to put the ball into the net. The referee over-ruled the Rangers' linesman, who had indicated that Dewayne was off-side, on the grounds that Dewayne was not interfering with play and the goal was allowed to stand. In the 38th minute Rangers came close when their No.9 struck the ball past Matt Hedges but Alan McKie was there to put the ball out. At 11.08am Loz sent a long ball into the opponents' half, Mike Pearce passed it left to Dewayne and, as the keeper came forward, Dewayne hit the ball just to the right of the far post. Two minutes later David Blackman took the ball down the left wing and crossed it inside to Baz on the corner of the 18-yard box but Baz's shot went to the left of upright. At 11.13am Rangers broke down the middle of the field and their No.11 drove the ball past the Hithercroft goalkeeper to bring the score to 4-1 just before the end of the first half.

At 11.18am the second half got under way with no changes having been made by either team. The Rangers had taken heart from their goal and their play improved no end throughout the second half. After 10 minutes Hithercroft's Paul Morgan collected the ball on the wing, sent it on to Baz at the edge of the 18-yard box but Baz's back-heel sent the ball just outside of the left-hand post. Hithercroft then sent on Dan Birch to replace Mike Pearce. In the 14th minute of the half the Rangers' No.3 sustained a leg injury and was carried from the pitch, being replaced by No.4. At 11.37am Rangers attacked down the middle and their No.2 hit the ball from the left into the lower left-hand corner of the Hithercroft goal to reduce their deficit to just 2 goals. They continued to pressurize the visitors but, at 11.44am, Loz threw the ball in to Baz who chipped the ball over his own head, turned and hit the ball into the Rangers' net for a 5-2 lead. Three minutes later Matt had to leap up to gather the ball from an on-target shot by the Rangers' No.2. The home team then made another player substitution. The Rangers' keeper was called upon to pull off a fine save when Paul raced down the right wing, sent the ball across to Baz who sent the ball goal-bound only to be denied by the keeper diving to get his hand to the ball. No further scoring took place and, after time had been added on for stoppages, the final whistle signalled a 5-2 win to Hithercroft.
