Naphill Seniors (15/01/2006) 2005 - 2006 Season, Hithercroft Youth  A cold wind was blowing along the muddy and sticky Naphill pitch but the weather remained dry but overcast. Hithercroft had three subs available and made use of them all during the second half, Naphill using two of their own, also in the second half. The referee was Mr Chris Glennister, Tony Barlow ran the line for Naphill and Pat Vaughey covered the first half for Hithercroft with Pam Ife covering the second. There was a one minute silence before the kick-off in respect for Mark Philo, a 21 year-old Wycombe Wanderers midfielder who had been killed in a car crash on Saturday. At 10.28am the game began and for the first 15 minutes the Hithercroft defenders prevented any threatening attacks by their opponents whilst the Hithercroft forwards had a couple of off-target shots at goal but in the 19th minute an unbelievable event occurred. Hithercroft had sent a long kick into the 18-yard box, the Naphill keeper came forward but was beaten to it by Baz David. Baz took the ball round the keeper and was presented with an open goal. However, Baz took the ball across the goalmouth and inexplicably delayed his shot, allowing a defender to come back and push the ball out for a corner. In the 24th minute Matt Seaton sent in a cross from the left, the Naphill keeper managed to push the ball out but Paul Morgan sent the ball back through the crowd of players into the net, putting Hithercroft 1-0 ahead. Hithercroft continued to press but their shots were either off-target or straight to the keeper. In the 38th minute the Naphill No.10 tried a long shot that went over the visitor’s crossbar and, one minute later, he tried another shot from the same distance but Matt Hedges safely gathered it. The second half started at 11.20am and after five minutes Hithercroft made their first substitution replacing Dewayne Dublin with Dougie Carswell, making his debut appearance for the team. In the 53rd minute Peter Morgan came on to replace Jamaine Warner for Hithercroft, who continued to pressurize their opponents but with little success. Naphill came close to getting the equaliser in the 75th minute when a header following a corner was goal bound. However, Matt Hedges managed to get his hand to the ball which then dropped behind him where Paul managed to clear the ball from the goal-line. In the 85th minute Hithercroft made their final substitution, sending on Jamaine Humphrey to replace Matt Seaton. Although the referee had added two extra minutes of stoppage time there was no further scoring, the game resulting in a 1-0 win to Hithercroft.
