Fleece
friendly (21/08/2005)
2005 - 2006 Season, Hithercroft Youth
The weather was much better for our second friendly game of the season
with sunny blue skies but an occasional wind. This week we took on
a Division 1 side, Fleece, with Brian Lewis taking the referee's duties
and Pam Ife running the line for us.
The game got under way at 11.12am with Chas, Jamaine and Peter waiting
on the sidelines. After 8 minutes Fleece came close to opening the
scoring when their No.10 gathered the ball on the edge of the 18-yard
box and drove a powerful shot that Matt Hedges managed to turn over
the crossbar. However, from the resulting corner the ball rebounded
between players before coming off the back of a Hithercroft player
and ending up in the back of the net. Three minutes later the Fleece
No.10 again hit a strong shot over Matt's head, giving the visitors
a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes of play. In the 15th minute Hithercroft
hit back when Tyrone pushed the ball wide to Marcello who crossed
the ball into the middle; Paul then came in from the right and put
the ball into the net to open his team's account. This move was repeated
in the 23rd minute, Tyrone sending the ball wide, Marcello crossing
the ball and, although the keeper pushed the ball out, Paul again
put the ball into the back of the net to level the score at 2-2. Both
sides made substitutions during the remainder of the half but the
score remained unchanged until the half-time whistle blew at 11.54pm.
The second half kicked-off at 12.02pm with Marcello, Jamaine and Jermaine
initially on the Hithercroft 'bench'. After 4 minutes Hithercroft
had put the ball into the Fleece net when Mike and Dewayne brought
the ball forward, pushed it out to Chas who came in and put the ball
home but the 'goal' was ruled off-side. At 12.12pm from a Hithercroft
free-kick Baz hit a powerful shot, forcing the Fleece keeper to tip
the ball over the bar. Five minutes later Marcello and Jermaine Young
came on to replace Dewayne and Chas for the home team. Fleece came
close to retaking the lead on two occasions but each time sent the
ball just outside the left-hand post. Hithercroft were being caught
off-side on a number of occasions and at 12.25pm a Marcello goal was
again disallowed for this reason. On the 30th minute of the half David
Blackman played a long ball down the middle but the keeper raced to
the edge of the 18-yard box and gathered it just before Paul could
reach it. At 12.40pm Alan McKie sent a pass to Mark Sadler on the
left wing and he played it forward to Baz but his shot just cleared
the Fleece crossbar. With 7 minutes remaining Jermaine unleashed a
powerful drive that hit the left post and bounced back to Tyrone who
crossed it back in for Baz to hammer the ball into the net and put
Hithercroft ahead for the first time in the match. Hithercroft were
buoyed on by their success and just before the final whistle Jermaine
pushed the ball across to Marcello who came in from the left and deposited
the ball into the visitor's net to give Hithercroft a 4-2 victory.
