Keys (08/01/2006) 2005 - 2006 Season, Hithercroft Youth  The weather was chilly but dry for the return match between these two teams and the pitch was sticky and soft. Hithercroft were without Loz Dunn, who was away on holiday, and Leon Read, who had an ankle injury, but they had two subs available. The game kicked started at 10.28am and turned out to be very uneventful. Hithercroft’s Paul Morgan needed treatment on a number of occasions for leg injuries following mis-timed tackles from Cross Keys. The only memorable pieces of action occurred towards the end of the half. In the 40th minute Matt Seaton collected the ball on the left, took it round four or five players before hitting a shot that rebounded from the crossbar. Two minutes later Baz David brought the ball in from the right, crossed it to Dewayne Dublin, who went round a defender and played the ball back across the face of the goal close to the line. Unfortunately for Hithercroft Baz, who had moved close to the far post failed to react quickly enough to what should have been a simple tap in. On the 44th minute Paul hit a shot from 35 yards out which was dipping down under the crossbar when the Cross Keys’ keeper rose up to block it. The second half got under way at 11.18am and during this half both teams called on a substitute each, Cross Keys replacing their No.5 with No.2 and, in the 71st minute Dewayne Dublin made way for Jamaine Humphrey. In the 83rd minute Baz sent a throw-in to Richard Vere who turned and hit a shot that went just over the Cross Keys’ crossbar. Five minutes later the visiting keeper dived to push a Hithercroft shot round the post but Hithercroft were unable to capitalise on the resultant corner kick. The final whistle brought the game to a disappointing 0-0 draw. Cross Keys had improved their performance since the first meeting of these two sides but the Christmas/New Year break had done Hithercroft no favours, their performance being well below their usual standard.
