  Cressex Club Res (02/10/2005)
2005 - 2006 Season, Hithercroft Youth

Sunshine but a chilly wind were the weather conditions for Hithercroft's home match against the current division leaders, Cressex Club Reserves. Clive Chard was the referee and Pat Vaughey ran the line for the home club. Baz David was not available following last week's rib injury but Tyrone Francis was now fit again. The available subs were Loz Dunn, Peter Morgan and Denshloy Myrie.

Within 2 minutes of the kick-off, which took place at 10.36am, Hithercroft had opened the scoring when Eugene turned and hooked the ball from just outside the 18-yard box into the lower right-hand corner of the net, leaving the surprised keeper standing motionless on his line. The Cressex No.10 came close when he struck a ball against the left post in the 7th minute. Two minutes later Eugene took the ball down the right, turned into the 18-yard box and pushed the ball past the advancing keeper inside the left-hand post to give the home team a 2-0 lead. The Hithercroft attacks were showing improvement over recent games with shots being taken whenever the opportunity arose. Dewayne forced the keeper to dive to push the ball out when he sent in a goal-bound shot and then Eugene hit a shot that went just outside of the top left-hand corner of the Cressex net. Dewayne then tried a long shot from about 30 yards out that passed just outside of the left upright. In the 25th minute the Cressex keeper sent a goal kick down the middle, Paul headed the ball forward and Eugene headed the ball on over the keeper into the net for Hithercroft's third goal. At 11.13am Eugene was pushed in the back and the referee awarded Hithercroft a free-kick about 30 yards from the Cressex goal. Alan stepped up to take the kick and drove it at the goal but, as the Cressex No.6 turned his back towards Alan the ball struck him, rose up in the air and came down into the goal to give Hithercroft a 4-0 advantage. Four minutes later the Cressex No.2 burst through the middle of the defence and Matt pulled off a fine block as he came off his line. At 11.20am Dewayne fired a shot that forced the keeper to dive at and push the ball out for a corner on the left. From the corner kick the ball was cleared as far as David and his shot again had the Cressex keeper pulling off a fine diving save. At 11.42am Mr Chard signalled the end of the first half.

At 11.26am the second half got under way and it would soon become apparent that Hithercroft had not got this game sewn up. In the 9th minute of the half Cressex were awarded a corner on their right and the ball was sent in to their No.11 who squeezed the ball just inside the right-hand post to open their account. Shortly afterwards Eugene took the ball downfield and into the 18-yard box, was tripped by a defender but regained his footing and hit a shot towards the top right corner of the net but the keeper got a hand to it and sent the ball out for a corner. In the 60th minute Paul played a long ball down the middle to Dewayne who took the ball on and hit it high over the keeper, who was standing well out from his goal-line, and it dropped down into the net to give Hithercroft a 5-1 lead. At 11.48am Hithercroft brought on Loz and Peter to replace Dan and Jamaine soon after Cressex had made their one replacement. Cressex were fortunate not to have conceded a penalty when Dewayne sent the ball forward to Eugene who was then blatantly pushed in the back by the No.6 when he was inside the penalty area. On the 71st minute a Cressex player had to leave the field with an ankle injury, reducing the visitors to ten men for the remainder of the game. Three minutes later Cressex reduced the gap when their No.2 scored from a long-distance shot. In the 75th minute Alan McKie had to leave the field with a leg injury and the home team played on with 10 men as it was hoped that he would recover. Four minutes later Cressex played a long ball down the centre of the pitch from where their No.4 hit a powerful shot to score their third goal. It became apparent that Alan would not be able to return and so Denshloy came on to replace him. On the 83rd minute Cressex came back to being just one goal down when their No.4 hit a curving shot that ended up just inside the left-hand post. With just 2 minutes remaining Cressex sent the ball from a corner kick to their No.10 and he sent it back to the No.2. who crossed the ball into the 18-yard box. Matt dived onto the ball but failed to hold onto it, the ball rolling loose for the No.15 to dive and head the ball over the goal-line to level the score at 5-5. As the Cressex No.4 sent a header just over the Hithercroft crossbar the referee blew the final whistle giving both sides a point each.
