Chinnor
friendly (28/08/2005)
2005 - 2006 Season, Hithercroft Youth
The weather was warm and sunny with
no wind for our final friendly match, once again against first division
opponents. Brian Lewis took control of the match with the linesman's
duties being shared between Pat Vaughey and some of the Hithercroft
players.
At the kick off at 10.35am Jamaine Warner, Mike Pearce, Dewayne Dublin
and Eugene Hepburn were the reserves. Play began with both sides sharing
the possession and territorial advantage, the first goal being scored
after 22 minutes. Chinnor took the ball down the middle and their
No.6 entered the 18-yard box and pushed the ball past keeper Simon
Mines as he came forward, putting the visitors 1-0 ahead. One minute
later Hithercroft almost equalised when Tyrone Francis pushed the
ball forward to Baz David who took it wide and sent it back to Tyrone
whose chipped shot went just the wrong side of the post. At 11.07am
Simon pulled off a great save when he dived to his left to gather
a goal-bound shot. By half-time at 11.19am all the home team's subs
had been given a spell on the pitch and the scoreline was 1-0 to Chinnor.
The second half began at 11.24am and after 2 minutes Hithercroft had
equalised, Loz Dunn sent a long throw to Dewayne who brought the ball
in from the wing and put the ball into the back of the Chinnor net.
Two minutes later Chinnor's No.5 hit a shot that was kept out by Simon's
dive to intercept. Shortly afterwards Simon again used his agility,
diving to push a second shot from the same player round the post.
Hithercroft were making more opportunities to get into goal-scoring
positions in this half but it was Chinnor that scored the next one.
They sent a long ball to their No.10 on the left who crossed it in
for the No.6 to run in and squeeze the ball between Simon and the
right-hand post. However, 8 minutes later, Loz sent the ball forward
and Eugene put the ball into the right-hand corner of the Chinnor
net to put the teams back on level terms. Baz came close to putting
his team into the lead when he sent in a long shot from near the corner
flag but the ball just went over the crossbar, hitting the far stanchion.
At 11.59am Chinnor were awarded a free kick from just inside the right
touchline and the ball came across to their No.10 who drove the ball
into the net from the edge of the 18-yard box. Three minutes later
Simon again pulled off a great reaction save, diving to push an on-target
shot round the post. The final whistle blew at 12.09pm with the first
division side emerging 3-2 winners but Hithercroft had put up a good
showing.
