Bucks
College Res - (11/12/2005)
2005 - 2006 Season, Hithercroft Youth
This important match between the top two teams in their
Division was their second meeting of the season, Bucks College having
won the first encounter 1-0. The ground was covered in frost for the
whole of the game, the weather being cold and foggy but dry. The referee
was Mr K. Puddephatt and the linesman’s duties for Hithercroft
were covered by Brian Lewis during the first half and Pat Vaughey
in the second. Hithercroft had three subs in attendance, but only
made use of one, and the visitors also made just one change during
the game.
The referee got the game underway at 10.35am with Hithercroft turning
out in red shirts to avoid any possible colour clash as the College
side wear white shirts with a dark blue stripe down each side. After
10 minutes Loz Dunn played the ball forward, it ricocheted from a
College defender to Leon Read who hit it past the keeper to give Hithercroft
the opening goal. Two minutes later Tyrone Francis crossed the ball
from the left to Leon whose 35-yard shot just passed over the crossbar,
hitting the top of the net. Tyrone came close in the 16th minute when
his lofted shot also came down onto the top of the College net. On
the 30-minute mark Dewayne Dublin left the field with a leg injury
and, whilst he was being given treatment Bucks College scored the
equaliser in the 31st minute. Their No.9 hit the ball from out on
the right, keeper Matt Hedges went down to block it but it rebounded
from the nearside post hitting Matt on the back and rolling into the
net. As Dewayne was unable to continue Richard Vere came on in the
32nd minute. Two minutes before the end of the half Bucks College
took the lead when their No.9 turned in from the right and sent a
superbly struck shot from 25 yards out over the keeper’s head
into the far side of the net.
The second half began at 11.28am as the fog continued to thicken and
in the 55th minute Hithercroft levelled the score. Richard sent the
ball to Baz David, Baz brought the ball infield and pushed it on to
Tyrone who sent the ball to the left of the keeper into the College
net. Bucks College were being hard pressed by the younger Hithercroft
side and in the 58th minute brought on their No.12 to replace their
No.7. The home team had a number of off-target shots from Baz, Tyrone
and Richard and had some on-target attempts saved by the College keeper.
The visitors came close to re-taking the lead in the 71st minute when
their No.9 hit a shot from the edge of the 18-yard box but Matt Hedges
rose up to tip the ball over the crossbar for a corner. The corner-taker
completely mis-judged his swing and ended up making more of a contact
with the flag than he did on the ball. In the 74th minute the deadlock
was broken when Tyrone hit the ball from the right-hand corner of
the 18-yard box into the far side of the net, Hithercroft taking a
3-2 lead. Hithercroft then took charge of the game, Baz having two
shots saved, Tyrone heading the ball wide of the post and a free-kick
from Baz passing just outside of the left-hand post. The thick fog
then began to clear quite noticeably and had almost completely cleared
by the final whistle. Two minutes before the expected end of the game
Loz sent the ball forward to Richard, he passed it on to Tyrone who
then burst through the defence but miss-hit his shot, sending the
ball just wide of the upright. Pressure finally paid off for Hithercroft
during time that the referee had added on. Loz played the ball into
the middle, Tyrone gathered it and pushed it back to Leon who hit
a fierce shot. The keeper went down to gather it but the ball bounced
off his chest and Baz ran in to hit the loose ball into the back of
the net to give Hithercroft a 4-2 victory.
