Chesham
Rangers Youth (02/12/2001)
2001 - 2002 Season, Hithercroft Under 15s
This
week our visitors were Chesham Rangers Youth who are currently leading
the division with an unbeaten record of 6 wins and 2 draws. Their
regular goalkeeper dislocated a knee a couple of weeks back and
so they are relying on outfield players to fill this position until
his return. The weather was frosty but dry and the pitch was fairly
soft owing to the recent wet weather.
The game kicked off at 10.35am and, after 10 minutes, Jamie Reynolds
headed Chesham into the lead. In the 29th minute Jamie struck again
with a high shot, to which Hithercroft’s Phillip Lines managed
to get his hands to but was unable to stop. Both sides had goal-scoring
opportunities throughout the half but failed to take advantage of
them. Just before the interval Hithercroft pulled a goal back when
Dewayne Dublin took the ball round three opposing players and hit
the ball wide of the Chesham keeper, making the score 2-1 to the
visitors.
For the second half Chesham switched their goalkeeper with another
outfield player. One minute after the restart Aron Yeardie increased
Chesham’s lead when, totally unmarked, he took the ball and
lifted it over Phil’s head for 3-1. Eight minutes later Asher
Jennings pulled one back for the home side but within 2 minutes
Chesham restored their 2 goal lead. This came when Jamie collected
the ball from a Hithercroft goal-kick and scored from a tight angle.
Jamie then took advantage of a hesitation in the Hithercroft defence
to run in and score again. Further goals followed for Chesham by
Adam Yearly, Jamie and Adam again to bring the final score to 8-2
in Chesham’s favour.
Chesham were deserving winners. They maintained their formation
throughout showing skill, powerful shooting and good support for
the man with the ball. Hithercroft, although having numerous attacks
showed very poor finishing, either dwelling too long on the ball
until dispossessed, hitting the ball wide or playing soft shots
for the keepers to save. Hithercroft need to improve a good deal
before the return match next year if they are to have any hope of
causing an upset.
