Wycombe
Lions (12/11/2000)
2000 - 2001 Season, Hithercroft Under 14s
The
weather was chilly but sunny (for a change) as both sides took to
the field for what proved to be a hard-fought match between the
current top two teams in the division.
Phil McGuire opened the scoring for the Lions and then missed his
next two shots. Marcus Alger then made it 2-0 before Jason Guy,
taking the ball from Hithercroft’s goal area, rounded many
players on his way down to the Lion’s goal area. He then passed
to Jerome Warren who went wide of the goalkeeper and then put the
ball into the net. Then back came the Lions and Phil lobbed Lee
Hudson, the Hithercroft goalie to make it 3-1. Matt Seaton then
crossed the ball for Phil to volley past Lee for the 4th Lions goal.
Then back came Hithercroft as Shane Globe slipped the ball just
inside the upright just wide of the diving Lion’s goalkeeper.
Shortly afterwards Jason again went through the defence and scored
Hithercroft’s third, leaving the score at 3-4 at half-time.
Within 5 minutes of the restart Jerome levelled the score but Matthew
immediately replied with a long shot from a narrow angle to put
the visitors back in front. Marcus then had a clear run through
Hithercroft’s defence and lobbed Lee as he came out to score
the Lion’s sixth. Dewayne Dublin then hit a shot just wide
of the Lion’s goalpost but Marcus then added to his tally
with a narrow-angled shot as Hithercroft’s heads went down.
This made the final score 4-7 but a draw would have been a fair
result
The cabbage field was paid a few visits in both halves as many shots
went wide or over the bar but the game was a credit to both sides.
