Downley
Albion - League Cup (15/10/2000)
2000 - 2001 Season, Hithercroft Under 14s
Downley
Albion, a second Division side, were much too good for Hithercroft
in this league Cup fixture. Hithercroft defended the lower end of
this sloping pitch in the first half and conceded the first goal
to their Number 11. Then, although Lee Hudson managed to get his
hands to the next shot he was unable to keep the ball from the net.
A third then followed soon after and Jerome Warren had a good, hard
shot pushed wide by the Downley goalie. Downley them came straight
back and Ruari Kerr saved off the line. At the turn-around it was
3-0 to the home team, Downley.
Shortly after the restart Downley's number 8 ran through the defence
to score from square on, leaving Lee no chance. Then their number
11 crossed the ball from the wing for number 8 to slide the ball
into the net. Next, the Downley number 5 scored when three Downley
players passed the defence, making it 6-0. After scoring a seventh
the Downley team missed some simple chances. Their number 8 hit
the post, number 12's shot went wide and number 10 did the same.
Our linesman, Rocky Hudson, was keeping up his comedy routine and
gave friendly advice to our players (which they ignored). Hithercroft
are now out of both Cup competitions and we can now settle down
to our league games where we expect to do quite well.
